What is the challenge?
A combination of its world-class cultural assets, major events programme and multi-million pound investment in infrastructure has made Glasgow an award-winning centre for sports, music and arts events.
Our challenge is looking at how we can improve travel choices and experiences during events in the city.
On this basis, Glasgow is looking at how can we further develop our Smart City capabilities (data analytics / digital infrastructure / IoT networks / sensor deployments) in order to open up these opportunities for all citizens and to enhance mobility choices in the city.
Itron, also involved in Glasgow’s Intelligent Street Lighting programme, will be running a programme later this year that will provide free support to the EU developer community to tackle real challenges set by leading cities across Europe.
Itron has approached Glasgow, alongside other cities such as Copenhagen and London, to develop a challenge that can be issued to the developer community to create innovative Smart City solutions.
In total we hope for about 50 companies to participate from across Europe (10 to 15 per city) who will have around 8 weeks to build and test solutions, before judging, and then awards.
